“In many situations, when working with children in schools and clubs, children are not always empowered to decline participation if they do not wish to take part.
“

Today in class, I referred to a child I was teaching as “kid”. He said, I’m not a kid, I’m a person! And he was right. When creating products for children it’s important to respect them and value their input the same way we’d respect a partner’s input. Creating a product that empowers the child and doesn’t make him or her feel frustrated or undermined. I think that I’d like to make a project for children ages 6 to 10, that focuses on helping a child feel in control and empowered. Maybe empowered to do something overwhelming in the adult world, like coding for example, in a simple way.
I know I want to make something:
– for children ages 6-10
- that makes them feel empowered to be their own people
- that values their input
- That helps them do something from the adult world that they might find overwhelming in a simple way
